Diablo 2: Resurrected will not be compatible with ultrawide screens, as previously stated by Vicarious Visions

Diablo 2: Resurrected will not be compatible with ultrawide screens, as previously stated by Vicarious Visions. This is due to a problem with the AI's programming, which has been confirmed by the developer.

Despite the fact that Activision Blizzard'sDiablo 2 Resurrected Items  will be released in a matter of weeks, developer Vicarious Visions has continued to release new information about the remastered classic game. However, there is one minor detail in Diablo 2: Resurrected that may disappoint fans of widescreen video games, namely the fact that the game does not support ultrawide screens.

Due to a technical issue that arises as a result of the feature, Vicarious Visions has confirmed that Diablo 2: Resurrected will not be supported on ultrawide screens. This problem was discovered during the technical beta, which means that some players who participated in it may notice a difference in the game before it is officially released. The developers of Diablo 2 have discovered that wider screens cause the AI mechanics in the game to malfunction in both the original Diablo 2 and Diablo 2: Resurrection versions of the game.

Players with ultrawide monitors were able to participate in the Diablo 2: Resurrected technical beta without experiencing any lag during the testing period. As a result of the testing, Vicarious Visions was able to identify limitations and artificial intelligence issues that were affecting these players. The AI enemies were not properly registering players who were a long distance away in part due to the wider screens and the way Diablo 2 is programmed. As a result, their pathing towards them was not properly registered as well.

There are more issues with the AI in Diablo 2: Resurrection than just not recognizing players; players with ultrawide screens were able to draw in significantly more enemies than was intended. For these players, it was possible to pull off these massive pulls while operating within a range limit that was significantly greater than that of the original game. Those who opted for ultrawide screens were also able to take advantage of enemy AI that wasn't properly pathing towards them, resulting in a less difficult fight than that which was experienced against opponents in the original version of the game.

Even if they are being attacked by a player, the enemy AI in Diablo 2: Resurrection will not properly react to players attacking them from a distance on ultrawide screens, despite the fact that they are being attacked. On ultrawide screens, it's unclear why the AI doesn't react when it's hit from a distance; however, it appears to boil down to something that cannot be changed. It has been confirmed by Activision Blizzard that developers are investigating possible solutions to this issue that do not entail making significant changes to the game.

As part of its post-alpha and technical beta testing for Diablo 2 Resurrected Items , Activision Blizzard received a large amount of feedback from fans requesting that the game be made compatible with ultrawide monitors. Vicarious Visions has failed to resolve the AI issues that have plagued players with wider screens, despite the fact that players with 21:9 screens have been hoping for a remaster that will allow them to take advantage of their ultrawide screens to their full potential.

However, players with larger screens will still be able to enjoy Diablo 2: Resurrected, which will only support a maximum screen size of 19:9 when released later this year. Players with 21:9 screens will be able to play Diablo 2: Resurrected at the 19:9 aspect ratio, with vignettes on both sides of the screen, thanks to the use of Vicarious Visions. To address in-game issues associated with screens that are wider than 19:9, Vicarious Visions has temporarily implemented this solution in order to address those issues.
