Fans angry at NBA 2K's unskippable advertising

Fans angry at NBA 2K's unskippable advertising. The NBA 2K series is being criticized for its loading-screen ads that are displayed in NBA 2K22 MT Coins the game's main mode. On Saturday, Stevivor announced that an advertisement for Oculus appeared before the standard "episode" of NBA 2KTV that is shown before the game's loading in any of NBA 2K21's numerous modes. Users are required to view the entire ad, since they aren't prompted to switch their lineups throughout the game loading.

The morning of Monday, Polygon tried to find the unskippable ads, playing the game available on the Xbox One. They weren't found in MyCareer, MyTeam or any of the Play Now matchups. This might be a temporary glitch that is only affecting certain regions or variants of the game or 2K Sports may have already removed ads from Play Now matchups in the weekend chaos. We've inquired with a 2K representative to get clarification.

Stevivor confirmed that the ads were also present on NBA 2K21's PC version and PlayStation 4 version. At the time of Halloween, NBA 2K20 started featuring unskippable ads. They were launched by NBA 2K19 during the summer of its release. Both caused backlash that eventually went away.

In-game advertising -- more than Buy 2K22 MT just fictitious billboards, or actual sponsorships -- is not something new. Madden NFL 10 began with it being available on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. It also included the pre-game bumper ads for Snickers in the past a decade.
