Bharti Eye Foundation -The Procedure of Laser Cataract Surgery

Laser cataract surgery is used to remove clouded lenses. In essence, cataracts are an eye condition where the lens appears cloudy. The lens lines the coloured area of your eye (iris). For the retina to see sharp, clear images, your eye's lens concentrates light. Cataracts are more common in older persons who are above 40. It is possible that it develops gradually and that you don't immediately experience any vision issues because there aren't any known symptoms. Surgery is the sole viable treatment because there is no medicine that can treat it.

The clouded lens of the eye is removed during laser cataract surgery. After this process, your vision will improve, enabling you to see well without the need of glasses or contact lenses.

How is laser cataract surgery performed?

Your injured eye is numbed with a general anaesthetic prior to laser cataract surgery so that you won't feel any discomfort. After the lens has been cracked with the laser, a very little incision is made for the lens opening. Your surgeon uses a laser to cut the cataract into tiny pieces, which are then suctioned out. The new artificial lens is used to replace the old natural lens.
