2,2-Bipyridine is a kind of bipyridine, it can be used as an analytical reagent, used for the determination of ferrous iron, silver, cadmium, and molybdenum; as a redox indicator. White or light red crystalline powder, easily soluble in alcohol, ether, benzene, trichloromethane, and petroleum ether; soluble in water, and its solution shows red when it meets ferrous salt. Melting point range: 70-72°C; water: 0.50%; free chlorine: 0.001%; sulfate: 0.005%; heavy metal: 0.005%.

1. The appearance of 2,2-Bipyridine is a white or light pink crystalline powder.

2. 2,2-Bipyridine is easily soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform, and petroleum ether, soluble in about 200 parts of water, and turns red when it meets ferrous salt.

3. 2,2-Bipyridine has a melting point of 69.7°C and a boiling point of 272-273°C.

2,2-Bipyridine

2,2'-Bipyridine is one of the bipyridine isomers and is a colorless solid. It is a bidentate chelating ligand that can form complexes with many metal ions and thus can be used as a redox indicator. The complexes with ruthenium and platinum have strong luminescent properties and may have potential applications. Its derivatives can be obtained by dehydrogenation of pyridine with Raney nickel.

Common 2,2'-bipyridine complexes include.

Mo(CO)4(bipy), similar to Mo(CO)6; RuCl2(bipy)2, a synthetic precursor; [Ru(bipy)3]Cl2, a commonly used luminescent substance; [Fe(bipy)3], used for colorimetric analysis of ferrous ions. The general formula of the tris(bipy)-type complex is [M(bipy)3] (M = metal ion: Cr, Fe, Co, Ru, Rh, etc.), with an octahedral type six-coordination atom and two enantiomeric isomers.

Toxicity classification: moderate toxicity;

Flammability hazard characteristics: flammable; burning will produce toxic nitrogen oxide smoke;

Storage and transportation characteristics The warehouse is ventilated, low-temperature, and dry; it is stored separately from the ingredients;

Fire extinguishing agent dry powder, foam, sand, carbon dioxide, mist water.
