What is Crane?

Crane is a powerful and heavy machine which is used for lifting, lowering of heavy objects, machinery etc with the help of cables and pulleys. They are mostly used in heavy constructions and manufacturing of heavy equipment industries.

There are several types of cranes used in constructions depending on the type of work.

Cranes are the most important part of mega project constructions and heavy industries. Actually, they made our work too easy, due to them we don’t need to lift any heavy objects or lower it. They did our all hard works in less or no time.

Now we can work anywhere with the help of cranes, we can work in the middle of seas, in sky rising building with very ease.

Different Types of Cranes

There are several crane types used for different works in different places. Here we will discuss the following crane types in details. So Let’s move on.

Carry Deck Crane

Carry deck cranes are a relatively new type of crane that evolved from the older pick and carry model that was first introduced in the 1980s. They’re small, four-wheeled, can rotate a full 360 degrees, and are more portable than other types of cranes. Carry deck cranes are simple to set up, and their small size easily allows them to navigate around confined and open spaces, making them a staple on many job sites.

Telescopic Crane

A telescopic crane offers a boom that has a number of tubes that are fitted inside each other. Then hydraulic mechanisms extend or retract the tubes to length or shorten the boom.

Tower Cranes

Tower cranes are the cranes you see along city skylines that are used to build tall structures such as skyscrapers. The basic components of a tower crane are a vertical tower—also known as a mast—and an outstretched jib.

The trolley and hook block travel along the jib, which can rotate 360 degrees around the mast (this motion is called slewing). Often, these cranes are assembled using smaller, mobile cranes.

Harbour Crane

It is also called mobile harbour or port harbor crane. It is mostly used in sea ports to unload or load the ships. The flexibility of the machine makes it easy to use it at any place. Its main advantage is, that it is among the powerful material handling cranes. Which means that materials will be transported from one place to another safely and with ease.

Crawler Crane

Unlike the wheeled carry deck cranes, crawlers are track vehicles. Instead of wheels, crawlers are built on an undercarriage fitted with a pair of rubber tracks. Though this limits the crawler’s turning capacity, the tracks make it possible to use on soft ground and sites with limited improvement without sinking.

Rough Terrain Crane

The crane is mounted on an undercarriage that has four rubber tires and is designed to be use off road. The outriggers can extend vertically and horizontally to stabilize and level the crane when it is lifting a large load. These types of cranes are single engine meaning that the same engine is used to power the undercarriage and the crane.

Rough Terrain Crane

Rough Terrain Cranes are mounted on the four rubber tires. They are mostly used in off road applications. Outriggers are used for stabilizing the crane while working. They contain only one engine which means that same engine is used for undercarriage and crane.
