Processes to consider in garment manufacturing

Garment construction includes the processes that are carried out to ensure that the garments have been made from these processes.

They are made from different parts that require different construction procedures or skills. These processes include: control of fullness, pockets, waists, opening, fastening and hem control.

  1. Fullness management

This can be defined as arranging an extra size of fabric to achieve the following:

a.) Well-fitting clothing.

b.) Garment shaping.

c.) Providing fashion elements.

d.) Garment decoration.

Control of fullness is achieved by: darts, pleats, tucking, gathering, loosening, wrapping, creasing and using an elastic.

  1. Pockets.

This is a very important feature on outerwear, they are functional and decorative and are sometimes used to emphasize or showcase fashion features.   1. Openings and fixings.

It is the part that is left unstitched on a garment or item so that the garment can be put on and taken off easily. It is normally fastened after the garment is worn to maintain its shape. They can be decorative, plain or functional.
