For PPG's global businesses, the COVID-19 pandemic is having a wide range of consequences, some of which will last well beyond the current crisis period. According to Sam Millikin, global director of Powder Coating Equipment and sealants for aerospace at the company, customer operational changes have resulted in more frequent orders with lower product volumes per order, as well as lower product volumes per order in the commercial aviation segment. Our survey on the long-term effects of COVID-19 earlier this year revealed that only 12% of participants expected the aerospace industry to recover its previous year's levels this year; another 42% expected the market to recover its previous year's levels the following year (in 2022); another 26% expected the market to recover its previous year's levels in 2023; and the remaining 20% expected the aerospace industry to recover its previous year's levels in 2024.

Furthermore, fewer flights result in less liquidity for the airlines as well as less funding for refurbishment programs, both of which are unwelcome consequences of the reduction in flights. A direct result of the decline in demand for powder coating booths was an increase in the number of spontaneous call-offs, as well as an emphasis being placed on shorter maintenance programs as a result of the decrease in overall demand for .
