To ensure that your saved data is not lost, Nintendo recommends that you back up the data before switching to the OLED model. But that only works with Nintendo Switch Online.

As of today, players can switch to a new model of the Nintendo Switch family, which is equipped with a larger OLED screen and brings some other innovations with it. But before you switch to the new console, Nintendo advises players from Animal Crossing: New Horizons Items to back up their data beforehand.

You should create a backup before changing your main console so that your saved game, which has been built up over many years, does not disappear in a data hole. This prevents your data and thus your game progress from being lost.

How do I activate the ACNH island security? If you want to activate the island security, you have to follow the steps below:

Press the minus button on the title screen

Select island security and then activate island security

The prerequisites for the island backup are a stable internet connection and a current software version of the Nintendo Switch (1.4.0 or higher). Only a Nintendo Account with a house or tent on the island can activate the island protection per island.

What do I need for this? Unfortunately, this feature is only available to Nintendo Switch Online members. You have to be an active member of the paid subscription model, otherwise you cannot use the service.

Keep playing on the new OLED console

How do I get my island on the OLED console? If you have activated the island protection, you can revive the last saved version on the new OLED console. For this purpose, the backup is automatically downloaded if you have activated it in the options.

Alternatively, you can download the saved data manually. To do this, you have to follow the steps below on the new console:

Either go to options and select storage data cloud or go to data management via the system settings and select storage data cloud.

Select the desired user or the desired backup file to download the saved data.

Otherwise, you can use the island transfer software from the Nintendo eShop if both consoles are still available to you. Make sure, however, that you have activated the island security beforehand, in case something should go wrong during the transfer.

You can then continue with your old island on the new OLED model and prepare for the upcoming innovations and events.
