The latest innovations in the car's surface protection industry have come with great technology that provides long-lasting protection to the car's paintwork. Compared to the conventional procedures of paint sealants or car waxes, ceramic coatings provide a reliable and superior level of protection to the car's paint. As a result, they have become an excellent alternative for people tired of using car waxes or sealants for their treasured possession every few months. Car waxes usually last three months, but ceramic coatings can last several years if maintained properly.

However, after some years, when your ceramic coating gets damaged or torn, you must redo it to protect your car's paintwork. Unfortunately, many people find it hard to find the right company or individual who can help them with this process. If you are among those who do not like to hand your car to the workshops, here's some good news for you!

Gone are the days when you have to rely on car operators for every little problem with your car. In this modern age, you can provide the necessary services to your car yourself without paying hundreds of dollars to someone else. Yes, you read it right! You can apply ceramic coating to your car in your home using the DIY technique. However, to do this job yourself, you should know all the techniques or skills required for this procedure.

Here are all the steps listed to help you apply the ceramic coating at home. Let's have a look at them:

Clean Your Car's Paintwork Properly

The car's paint quickly picks up dirt, sand, and road grime fragments. These particles damage the performance of the new ceramic coating. If you wish for optimal results, you should use a good quality foam cannon to clean your vehicle. Keep two buckets with you, one for washing the vehicle and the other for cleaning the vehicle. While washing the car, start from the top to the bottom, as the lower panel usually has more dirt, sand, and road grime.

Go for Chemical Decontamination

To remove harmful iron deposits, go for tar remover, good bug, and iron-filing-based products. Products with iron filings change colour so you can see that these products have been safely rinsed out of the car. Besides that, use a clay bar and clay bar lubricant to remove any remaining contaminants in your car.

Use Polishing

Before applying a new layer of ceramic coating to your car, it is essential to make sure that your car's paintwork is clean, smooth, clear, and perfect. As you know, the ceramic coating forms a strong bond with the car's surface; thus, it will seal any contaminants. This way, your new car coating and paintwork will be affected. So, it would be best if you used a polishing finish to remove all types of scratches or swirls. Polishing will provide brilliant gloss to your car. If your car has many scratches, you must use machine compound polishing to remove all the marks.

Spray IPA Wipe

To remove any residual polishing oils, spray an isopropyl alcohol mix on the car's surface and clean it with a good-quality towel afterwards. This step will help ensure perfect bonding between the ceramic coating and the car's paintwork.

Apply Ceramic Coating

Hold a foam block and wrap the applicator around it. Before applying the ceramic coating, shake the bottle well. After that, draw a line of ceramic coating on the applicator and work in 2 by two sections. Apply the coating from up to down and left to proper motions. Let the coating dry but do not leave it for too long because, after 25 to 30 seconds, the ceramic coating product will flash. Remove it using a good quality microfiber towel and never use it again for your car because the SiO2 absorbed in the towel will dry up and damage the car's paint if used again.

Provide Curing Time

Once you apply the ceramic coating, keep your car in a dry and relaxed environment for 13 to 15 hours. Avoid your vehicle from humidity, rain, dust, and moisture. During this time, make sure to keep your car far away from water. Park your vehicle in the sun if the weather is not too humid or dusty outside. This will enhance the curing time of the car and will help the ceramic coating build a strong bond with the car's surface.
