Alternately, take the RS3 path and make the stuff hard to acquire/unreadable (comparable to crystal shards). I am not planning to take the opportunity to fully flesh out a smithing rework at a Reddit remark for 6 upvotes. They had been reworking the RS gold whole process, so that they could have just greatly reduced the opportunity to make things so rather than 1000s of platebodies per hour, you can make like just one or two dozen. That saidI doubt that would be possible at OSRS since such a huge rework into the ability's process wouldn't really match RuneScape, but would shifting alch costs and rebalancing 100s of drop tables.

Most of the smithable armors are tank armor and unaugmentable, and are practically useless for mainscape besides pking (lol pking is RS3.) Reg. Masterwork and trimmed masterwork are the only smithable armors worth using (both are power armor.) But maintenance for it's economical when you custom-fit it (becomes perma untradable and just repaired by using the tradable and smithable reg. masterwork.) Most of the really excellent armour in both matches is dps gear, it boosts damage dealt. With the exception of masterwork, that's the newest BiS melee equipment in RS3, all the equipment made with smithing is purely defensive and provides no harm bonus, so stuff like Bandos or Void are still the sole source of dps gear. Hell, even masterwork necessitates breaking down a complete pair of Torva and Malev, both previous BiS sets, so as to upgrade its stats beyond just being a set of Malev that doesn't degrade to dust.

I'd say reworks are what RS3 does. It's just that not all of reworks proceed nicely. RS3 is more focused on reinventing what's there to be more modern and its new fashion, but that can alienate RuneScape players who enjoy it for what it was. In the event the OSRS Team was prepared to tackle something as mammoth as a Smithing rework, it might pass a survey... Depends how far they would have to alter and what their solutions would be really. Though some RuneScape players would oppose it no matter just because moving things to lower levels wouldn't feel appropriate for OSRS to them.

Well, they did mention improving the new RuneScape player experience lately, and I certainly believe a smithing rework goes hand-in-hand with this. Put yourself in the shoes of a brand new RuneScape player interested in utilizing the smithing skill to create his gear. Sure he may be able to do so until adamantite but then, he is basically looking to spend 40-60m to make T40 armor. I feel like this simply sends a message to fresh RuneScape players that certain skills simply don't have significant advancement, sometimes you simply do them so you do not have to anymore.

I'd really like to see it revived, but is it accomplished? More importanly how can you make it pass? You can change runite (way/slightly) back down and reintroduce current armour into their appropriate, now empty, amounts. Update like this gives oportunity to you to do gear rebalance. New tier which arrives from skilling only, which competes with BIS lost gear. Allow it to be untradeable master-smithed tier (and I mean created from several kinds of tools ), so it's pain in the ass to get and will not be botted which will tank prices. A minigame, something like a skilling raid where you have to use multiple skills in non combat manner. I would certainly like to buy OSRS gold begin crafting together with smithing utilized. Maybe even a crafting/smithing station in your own house (some tiers private only). It does not seem OSRS like and could never pass, but maybe some bits of it could.
